Never met a New Year’s resolution I liked…

I’ve nnew-years-resolution-cartoon-598x579ever met a New Year’s resolution I liked…Have you? How many times did I join a gym in January? Darn gyms prove to be useless if you don’t go. Who knew? My list of failed resolutions piled up, so for many years, I just didn’t play the game. Worked out just fine. Until now.

I’ve decided to get back in the resolution swing of things. I’m going to perform a random act of kindness at least once a week. Do you wanna join in? I think we may have just figured out how to make the world a better place, folks.

I polled my Facebook friends to see what acts of kindness they’d witnessed in 2016. I read stories about about people paying tolls and buying coffee for them, giving food to the homeless, and the list went on.

I think back to when I was having one of those “I wanna crawl back in bed,” days, when a cashier at a fast food window complimented me on the sweater I was wearing. Just that little bit of encouragement made me feel better. It’s often the little things that add up to smiles.

While working out of town, I went to a Red Lobster for dinner alone. I was so tired and there was a long wait for a table. I declined to sit in the noisy bar area and resigned myself to waiting. I must have looked like the tired mess that I was because the hostess came back and took me to an unoccupied dining room. They seated me alone and treated me like royalty. I left there feeling so refreshed and grateful. The memory still makes my day.

So, I guess I should define “act of kindness.” How about sending a card (yes, snail mail is still available) to a friend for no reason. You could jump in and push that wheelchair across the street for a tired caregiver or share leftovers with a lonely neighbor or better yet, invite them over. There’s no limit to the possibilities.

You in?
